GRASAG DINNER

On 22nd July, 2022, GRASAG UCC held the Sandwich Finalist Dinner for its final year sandwich students at the New Examination Center, UCC.

In attendance were dignitaries such as the Dean of School of Graduate Studies, Prof. Mrs. Sarah Darkwa, the Dean of Students affairs, Prof. Eugene Darteh, the Senior Assistant Registrar of the School of Graduate studies, Mr. Eugene Hesse and the Hall Warden of Oguaa Hall, Miss Millan Ahema Tawiah and many others.

The President of the association H.E Emmanuel Yaw Gyimah addressed the finalist by thanking them for their support for the executive council throughout their stay on campus and also encouraged them to impact the knowledge they have gained to affect the society they find themselves positively.

GRASAG UCC PUBLIC LECTURE

GRASAG UCC ORGANIZES A PUBLIC LECTURE

On the 12th of April 2022, GRASAG UCC held a public lecture on the theme: Future Shape of sustainable Graduate Education in the New Examination Center (NEC) auditorium of UCC.

The Guest speaker was the former minister of education, the former Vice chancellor of the University of Cape Coast Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang. Panel members also included Professor Kwabena Sarfo Sarfo Kantanka of the faculty of Arts and Dr. Michael Boakye-Yiadom of IEPA.

Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang spoke extensively on how the current graduate education looks like and how we can shape it to suit our future needs. She also highlighted on some interventions that can be put in place to ensure effective graduate education.

In attendance were the former Pro vice chancellors of UCC, Professor George K.T Oduro and Professor Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, the Dean of Graduate Studies Prof. Sarah Darkwa, the Member of Parliament of Cape Coast North Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, Provosts of the Colleges of Education and many more.

The Panel members did a good job by speaking to the points raised by the speaker and highlighting on the way forward as graduate education is concerned.

Questions were raised by some participants which was answered by the panel members and the speaker. At the end of the lecture, Prof. Jane Opoku Agyemang acknowledged the hard work of the executive council and urged members of the association to make good use of the various programs organized by the executives.

GRASAG UCC HEALTH WALK

GRASAG UCC HEALTH SCREENING, WALK AND AEROBICS

The University of Cape Coast chapter of Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG-UCC) organized a health screening exercise for its members. It was coupled with a health walk and aerobics.

As the saying goes “Your Health is your Wealth”, On Saturday, 30th April, 2022, members of the association gathered at the forecourt of the Sam Jonah Library to walk, exercise and get screened to improve our fitness level.

The walk commenced at the Sam Jonah Library through the principal streets of the University of Cape Coast and to the various halls of residence and finally back to the Sam Jonah Library forecourt where the aerobics and the screening took place.

The aerobics started 30 minutes after the walk and followed by the screening exercise. The health screening included a blood group test, sickle cell, hepatitis B, eye Screening, breast and cervical cancer screening.

Members who attended were marveled by the success of the program as their expectations were met.

                                 

     

   

 

PROVISION OF FANS AND INTERNET CABLES AT THE GRADUATE LIBRARY BASEMENT BY GRASAG

The zeal of the Executive Council of GRASAG-UCC to see all postgraduate students of the University of Cape Coast have a conducive and serene environment to study has necessitated the procurement of fans and internet cables to be used to refurbish the Graduate study area at the Sam Jonah Library Basement.
Each cubicle will now have a fan to complement the air conditioner when it is off or breaks down. The damaged sockets, internet ports, and cables will also be replaced.
The above-mentioned items were presented to the Management of University  Library at the Sam Jonah Library on 14th July 2021 by the President of GRASAG-UCC and some executives
On this note we plead that members corporate with the electricians when they begin fixing the fans and cables at the library.

The Hope-led administration (The Possible GRASAG Agenda) promised members of the Association Data Sims and delivered.

We are glad to announce to members that leadership has been able to procure these data sims from AirtelTigo and the sims are still being distributed at the GRASAG Office.

The Package includes;

▪️Close User Group (Free calls to all members on the network.)

(Monthly Auto-Renewal of this package is for
7 months Duration).

Members should do well to make good use of this project as it serves as an alternative source of internet connection. This project is partly thought out of the fact that some Postgraduate Students are outside campus for data collection and so this would serve as a source of internet connection for them to continue their research.

GRASAG RESEARCH SENTINEL

GRASAG UCC EXECUTIVES LAUNCH THE GRADUATE RESEARCH SENTINEL

The leadership of GRASAG-UCC (2021) on Monday, 17th May 2021 launched the GRASAG Research Sentinel at the Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang Auditorium, University of Cape Coast. The initiative is in fulfillment of campaign promises made to the students’ populace during the electioneering year.

The team, which is aimed at helping students to finish their research work on time, is made up of Ph.D. students and one lecturer. The task of the team is to provide assistance and guidance to Graduate students doing their research work. According to the leadership of GRASAG-UCC, this will help reduce to the barest minimum if not completely eradicate, the problems Graduate students face during their research work.

The President, H.E Nana Yaw Eric Adjei, whiles addressing members present during the launch, made it clear that the members of the research Sentinel were meticulously selected from various faculties and schools in the University and are there to help all Graduate students.

The dignitaries who graced this occasion were the member of parliament for Cape Coast North Constituency, Hon. Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarko (Ragga), The Dean of Students(Professor Eugene Dartey), and the Dean of Graduate Studies (Professor Sarah Darkwaa).

The dignitaries present seized the opportunity to laud the Executive Council for such a novel initiative and advised students not to turn the Research Sentinel into a ‘Thesis making body.

The President, H.E Nana Yaw Eric Adjei, reiterated the claim that the team will also be in charge of organizing Faculty-Based tutorials or seminars on research and data analysis in the coming days. He added that the Research Sentinel has come to stay.

The President of GRASAG-UCC, H.E Nana Eric Adjei, ended his speech by admonishing all Graduate students to make the very best out of this Research Sentinel and come out with good theses at the end of their Graduate studies.

GRASAG-UCC Embarks on Donation Exercise as Part of Week Celebration

The Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana University of Cape Coast Chapter (GRASAG-UCC) as part of its ’21 Week Celebration yesterday, 17th August 2021, donated assorted items to some selected Basic Schools within the Cape Coast Metropolis.

The Schools which include; Kwaprow M/A Junior High School, Church of Christ M/A JHS, Tantri, and St. Cyprian Basic School received items such as Sanitary Towels, Liquid soap, Veronica Buckets, Sanitary Pads among others.

President of GRASAG-UCC, Eric Adjei, who led the delegation to present the items alluded that, contribution to society is one of the main goals of Higher Education, as such, the association as part of its Kick Out Covid-19 Campaign which is a Social Outreach Programme decided to support the three basic schools with the teams. Management of the three schools expressed their delight at the gesture by GRASAG-UCC.

The 2021 GRASAG-UCC Week Celebration which commenced began with a Launch and Research Seminar on Monday, 16th August 2021 and will run till Sunday, 22nd August 2021 is under the theme, “Redefining Graduate Education through Academic, Social Belongingness & Entrepreneurial Orientation, Exhibition, and Donation to UCC Mosque, Theatre Night and a GRASAG for Christ Crusade.

 

 

COLLEGE-BASED RESEARCH WORKSHOP

A three (3) day research workshop organised by the Association fell on 3rd to 5th February 2020. The workshop was organised with the intention of equipping students on Tools in Data Analysis and Interpretation and avoiding Plagiarism.

The workshop started with College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences with a presentation by Dr. Josiah Tachie-Menson. He presented on the use of Excel and G-Stat for data analysis.

Day two of the workshop was instituted for College of Humanities and Legal studies. The resource person for the day was Dr. Godfred William Cantah who presented on the use of Stata for data analysis.

The workshop ended on day three with presentations by Dr. Lebbaeus Asamani for College of Education studies and Mr. George Adjei for College of Health and Allied Sciences.

Mr. Isaac Nketsiah from DRIC, UCC  was present for all the three days of the workshop to take students through the best practices in avoiding plagiarism in their research work.

The Dean of School of Graduate Studies, UCC, Prof. Ernest L. Okorley graced the workshop and encouraged students to work hard in order to finish their thesis on time. The students learnt a lot and were grateful for such an educative seminar.

GRASAG HEALTH WALK

On the 6th of December 2019, the Association with its able members went on a walk for members de-stress, exercise and socialise amid the semester’s examinations. The Health Walk was accompanied by brass band music, which made the students dance to melodious tunes as they exercise. At the end of the walk which started from the Sam Jonah Library (Science) to the University’s Sports Complex (Old Site), the students were taken through some aerobics and engaged in some indoor games including ‘Oware’, Ludo, Draft, and Cards.

FIRST SENATE MEETING 2019/2020 – REGULAR STREAM

The First Senate Meeting of the 2019/2020 academic year for regular students came off on the 3rd of October,  2019 at the Sasakawa Conference Room. Some of the deliberations that took place at the meeting include deliberations on the budget for the academic year, deliberations on the Week Celebration of the Association, deliberations on research seminars and the institution of the Graduate Research Commons.

The Senate of GRASAG serves as the Legislative Arm of the Association where deliberations take place to carefully consider which programmes and activities are academically appropriate to be organised for members of the Association. It is made up of a representative each of all the various programs in the Graduate School. For an academic semester, Senate Meeting is organised twice to guide the Executive Council in their works.

The first Senate meeting ended successfully with great suggestions and guidance from the various senators and was chaired by the Speaker of Senate Hon. Sampson Gakpoh (Mphil Educational Psychology).
