Graduate Students of University of Cape Coast have been urged to commodify their research findings and commercialize their intellectual properties as a means of wealth creation.

Pro Vice-Chancellor of University of Cape Coast, Prof. George K.T. Oduro gave this counsel while addressing graduate students at the silver jubilee dinner and awards night of GRASAG UCC over the weekend.

Professor Oduro, challenging them to find ways and means to ensure their research findings attract industry players for investments said, it is not enough for graduate students to shelf their knowledge. He noted that commodifying their knowledge will make meaningful, their degrees.

“Every idea can be a means of livelihood, the choice is yours. You conducted research, you have written thesis and apart from using your thesis for your certificate, what else? I am very sure you have come out with very good results which is very relevant to industry; findings which will be very relevant to the community you live. How can you transform these findings into a money making venture for you? It is something you need to think about”.

Professor Oduro further called on the graduate students to be determined in their quest to seek knowledge and stressed the need for the students to aim at giving their best at all times.

He called on the students to be proud of their university and serve as its ambassadors. Admitting the stress that students sometimes have to go through in their academic pursuit, he said such pressure is important to help them fit well in the field of work.

“I want to remind you that those of you going you are ambassadors of this university…the process of producing something is not smooth and anything that is of quality goes through very unbearable processes. University of Cape Coast believes in quality and it is only when you get to your work place that you see your worth”.

Professor Oduro was also appreciative of the immense contributions of GRASAG UCC towards the development of the university especially their commitment to the sustenance of their research grants. He also urged the new executives of the association to work towards its upgrading.
