He said, “The future progress of Ghana and Africa will depend on the contributions of the graduates we are producing today. This means that to respond to the emerging socio-economic challenges and opportunities of the 21st century, the education we offer must be visionary and future oriented. This will require innovation, technology and research. Our educational institutions must avoid repeating yesterday’s educational programs and strategies which may not work for the current knowledge and technology based world”.

Prof Amoah further mentioned that research remains an important aspect of education at the University of Cape Coast adding, the various educational institutions must be innovative and better equipped to face the current educational trends.

To promote research, Prof. Amoah revealed that UCC, in the past few years, has placed great emphasis on research through development and support for research, masters and doctoral programs. To collaborate this effort, the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Consultancy was also established in August 2013 with the mandate to coordinate research innovations and consultancy in the university.
